ETHNIC STUDIES

April 28, 2026

After repeated attempts to work with the San Francisco Unified School District in good faith to adopt a proper Ethnic Studies curriculum for all San Franciscans, the Friends of Lowell Foundation implores and demands upon the SFUSD to follow the law by way of a legal notice.  An unvetted and illegal curriculum cannot be imposed upon all SFUSD students as a matter of fiat, and at the very least, the FOLF maintains that all San Franciscans have a right to be heard and have their inputs acknowledged in any mandatory curriculum imposed by the SFUSD.

Please feel free to review our demand letter to the SFUSD in the PDF below, and also available at http://bit.ly/4wrzWBp.

May 8, 2026 UPDATE

The Friends of Lowell Foundation has formally requested a meeting with Mayor Daniel Lurie with the hopes that the City and County of San Francisco would take the lead, much like it did in February 2021 when it sued the SFUSD and SFBOE to reopen schools, to encourage and compel the San Francisco Unified School District and the Board of Education to follow the law and to properly serve the children of San Francisco.

The City and County of San Francisco sends roughly a quarter of a billion dollars annually to fund the SFUSD.

Please feel free to review our letter along with its accompanying attachment to the mayor below.  The letter is also available at https://bit.ly/4wrHTX1.
